To Electric Slide or Not Electric Slide: The Truth About Group Dances

There is a scene in Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix, where Dumbledore is about to get sent to Azkaban for a plot against the ministry of defence, however before Dumbledore is arrested, he transforms himself into a Phoenix and disappears. One of the Wizards cleverly tells the Minister, “You may not like him, Minister, but you can’t deny… Dumbledore’s got style.”

For most weddings, I receive a “do not playlist” and more than half of those lists consist of “do not play” group dances. However, there’s just something about participation dances that get people moving and a dance floor packed. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re usually a bit unexpected (or maybe even a little bit crazy). All I have to say is that you may not like group dances, but you can’t deny.. they’ve got style and your guests will love them.

In this blog post, we’ll take a look at 5 line dances that are sure to get your guests up and dancing!

1. Electric Slide

The Electric Slide has been around for decades, and it’s still going strong! This is easily one of the most recognized participation dances out there, thanks in part to its infectiously catchy song. Not only is this classic dance a surefire way to get your guests’ feet moving and their hands clapping, but it’s also the perfect way to get people mingling and chatting with each other.

2. YMCA

Another one of the all-time classics, the YMCA dance is a surefire hit at any event (especially those that lean towards a more casual or relaxed atmosphere). Not only does this dance get people up and moving, but it also provides ample opportunity for participants to goof around and have a good time.

3. Cupid Shuffle

This fun participation dance was made popular by the hip-hop star Cupid, so it’s no surprise that its popularity has endured over the years. If you’re looking to get your guests moving and grooving in a fun way, this might be the perfect line dance for you.

4. The Cha-Cha Slide

This popular dance is a tried and true classic, and it’s been around for well over a decade. Despite its age, the appeal of this line dance has never faded, thanks to its simplistic nature and fun style. If you want to get your guests moving in a big way, the Cha-Cha Slide is definitely the way to go!

5. The Wobble

The Wobble, made popular by the song of the same name by V.I.C., is a fun novelty that can make any event feel like an instant party! While it might be unfamiliar to some guests, once they get in on the action and start shaking their hips, they’ll be having a blast. Plus, it’s always fun to see your guests trying something new and unique!

The crowd is guaranteed to love a participation dance; the floor fills up, and the party goes on. So at the end of the day, whether you’re a fan of them or not, consider featuring at least one of these songs at your event for a surefire way to bring everyone together!
